Painting Concrete Floors

If you have concrete floors in some parts of your house and you would like to make them a little bit more stylish, you can certainly paint them. Even though the process will not be so easy, or you might need some professional help, the result will certainly worth all the efforts.

First of all, before starting to pain, you must prepare the concrete surface, which might take quite some time. If your floor has been coated before, it would not be necessary to remove all of them, as long as they are adhered tightly to the concrete. If it is a new floor, then there are several preparations that you need before your concrete floor is ready to be painted.

You must clean the floor thoroughly and make sure that there is no grease left behind or otherwise the paint will not stick to the floor. Use a good quality of grease removal and cleaner for this purpose.

The concrete floor must be dry. If you find any moist, you might want to put a heater in the room for at least one full day to make sure the concrete floor is extremely dry. If you do not have a heater for the room, you should let the room dry for about three days minimum and try not to let the floor become moist.

When you are certain that there is no grease and moist on concrete floor, then you are ready to continue the process of painting it. After the concrete floor is clean, you must check whether the concrete floor has an adequate surface profile or not. The floor must have an adequate surface profile, which is more or less would feel like a medium sand paper.

If the floor does not have an adequate surface profile, you must find the material to make your floor has the right surface. You might want to ask the floor and building professional for the right material for your floor.

When all of the preparations are done already, you are able to start the painting process. The type of paint that you have to use depends on the purpose of the room. There are paints which will be perfect for regular dry or wet floors, or there is also an option to make the concrete floor looks smooth and glossy. However, with this kind of paint you must be very careful when the floor is wet because it will be very slippery.
